Similar to New Horizons, in this program Russian families from Russian churches and civic organizations host Russian orphans in their homes; decisions to become foster parents or to adopt result from their time together. MIR provides on-going support (social and financial) for the families and children.
In addition to the hosting aspect of the program, MIR is involved in child advocacy; informing the general population of the difficulties orphans face and providing ways that people can help make a difference.
We also encourage people who may not be able to adopt to become an Anchor Family: to make a life-long commitment to be an anchor for an orphan.
The goal is to provide permanence, to get the children out of institutional life and into loving family relationships.
